Executive Director, NOCA

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all NOCA members who took the time to complete the membership satisfaction survey that was distributed in December 2007.  The NOCA Board and staff are committed to staying in touch with our membership and obtaining information through surveys and other means to help the NOCA leadership make strategic decisions that are in the best interest of our membership and the credentialing industry.   One of the benefits of completing the survey was the potential for winning one of three free registrations to the NOCA 2008 Annual Educational Conference in San Francisco, CA.   Congratulations to our winners: Derek Vannice of the International Society for Arboriculture, Nancy Chobin of the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, and Jay Hanger of the National Recreation and Park Association.

The following bullet points highlight some of the key results of the survey:

  • The main reasons why members join NOCA are to: connect with professionals within the certification industry;  receive information about the profession/industry; and participate in educational opportunities.
  • We are meeting or exceeding members’ expectations related to NOCA’s professional credibility and supportive efforts on behalf of the industry.
  • Key corporate challenges or concerns identified by members, that NOCA can assist them with are: growth, marketing, test security and becoming NCCA accredited.

The survey also identified several member services, products and benefits of which many members are not aware. The NOCA Board, NCCA Commissioners and staff will be using data from the survey to plan future strategies, develop new services and products and improve awareness of existing benefits. Members can find the final survey results by clicking here.

The membership survey data was just one piece of information used by NOCA leaders recently to engage in strategic environmental scanning. The NOCA Board, NCCA Commissioners, and all NOCA committee chairs met in Chicago on April 2 to brainstorm and analyze recent trends affecting the credentialing industry. Trends in various sectors of the environment were identified by the group. The trends on which NOCA should focus resources over the next several years were then identified. Participants worked in small groups to develop ways in which NOCA should respond to the trends. The work of this group will provide the basis for the next strategic plan developed by the NOCA Board. We would like to express our appreciation to all of the leaders for their thoughtful input to the process.

In line with the main reasons that members join NOCA, we are pleased to announce exciting news about an upcoming event that NOCA is planning.  NOCA has taken the lead in working with other credentialing organizations to hold a Leadership Forum in September 2008 to discuss the key issues impacting our industry and to begin the formulation of strategic objectives to address those issues.  We recently sent a survey to the NOCA mailing list to help generate data to ensure that the Leadership Forum achieves its objectives.  If you have not already done so, please complete the survey in order to assist the Steering Committee planning the event (the survey is available on the homepage of the NOCA website at www.noca.org).  NOCA extended an invitation for all organizations providing services and resources to credentialing organizations and is pleased that the following organizations are actively participating on the Steering Committee: American Board of Nursing Specialties, Association of Test Publishers, ASAE & the Center for Association Leadership, Certification Networking Group, Citizen Advocacy Center, and the Performance Testing Council.  If you would like to see other organizations involved in the Steering Committee please send us an email at info@noca.org.

In addition to providing a new and exciting opportunity to network with other leaders in the industry through the Leadership Forum, the NOCA 2008 Annual Educational Conference Spanning the Credentialing Industry – Education. Innovation. Advocacy. in San Francisco is shaping up to be one of the best conferences yet!.  The Program Committee received a record number of submissions for educational sessions, which shows that interest in our annual conference and the benefits it provides to our members and the industry is continuously growing.  Thank you to everyone who submitted a session proposal.

We hope you enjoy this issue of NOCA News and please contact us at any time with feedback on how we are doing or suggestions on how we can better serve the credentialing industry.
